Why is the loading speed of your WordPress site important?

Quick! Quick!

Nobody likes to wait

This is as true for visitors to your site as it now is for search engines.

If you website takes more than 2 seconds to load, you’re losing money. Your visitors will abandon their course of action more often and search engines will penalize your site by lowering its ranking, impacting your Search Engine Optimization efforts (SEO).

Waiting…

Why is my website slow slow ?

A WordPress website may be slow for a number of reasons: its web hosting plan, its theme, plugins used, the content, the number of image files loaded, the size of these images…

Reasons for which a WordPress site may slow down are therefore many.

You website could follow 95% of industry best practices and still be slow. Only a complete diagnostic may help identify all the issues and solve their root causes.

How can I speed up my WordPress site?

As the sources of a slow site are varied, so are the solutions!

Without quality web hosting, having a fast website is almost impossible.

First, we will validate the web hosting server’s performance level and whether it’s adequate. Then, we’ll ensure all software packages are up to date so that your site may reach it’s full potential.

We optimize all your graphics files by reducing their size in relation to the size they will be viewed at by your visitors. Then, the image is optimized to reduce its size. In many cases, we can significantly decrease the weights of images, and by the same token, decrease the time required for loading your web pages.

Caching enables the information to be kept in memory, comes in many ways and can quickly become complex. Installing and configuring a caching plugin is an often used avenue, but it doesn’t necessarily solve all situations. When used properly, the content is displayed to your visitors faster and wait time is reduced.

Another way to speed up a website is to activate and configure a CDN (Content Delivery Network) so that your site’s static files can be distributed across the globe in different data centers.

This will reduce the distance between a visitor and your web hosting server, and will minimize your website’s latency.

For very high traffic websites, load balancing can be efficient and ncessary to split the load using different techniques. We also build an architecture allowing for the replication of your database in order to optimize its reads and write cycles.

Once set up, the architecture can evolve according to the traffic on your site and respond to suddent traffic spikes.

According to Google, the chances of a visitor leaving your site increase by 90% when a page load goes from 1 to 3 seconds.

Some questions that keep coming up…

Our process is unique. So it’s normal to have questions!

Unfortunately, it won’t change anything.

The score coming from Google PageSpeed is just one indicator among many. The report certainly helps us, but its interpretation is what really matters in order to assess the weight of each item in the report… and its relevance!

Google usually penalizes your site for things that are out of your control. It is therefore important to consider it. That said, other things that may seem innocuous can have a huge impact.

Only a performance analysis done by an expert, where all the available data is considered, can give you the right information about the real problems. Thus, you will know exactly what can and should be fixed on your site.

That’s not possible. How could we provide you with accurate guidance without performing any diagnostic?

If we compare ourselves to the medical field, we have to understand that your website experiences a health issue. Our experts must gather all the required data, analyze it and the provide you with the right diagnostic.

If some might have a tendency to solve verything by “taking 2 Advils”, we firmly believe that this approach is simplistic and provides no guarantee of solving the root cause. Understanding the problem is the best (and the only!) way to solve it.

Many customers already have a caching plugin when they contact us. Some even have several caching plugins. And yet, the problem is still there.

Is it the right caching plugin? Is it properly configured? Are the speed issues related to your configuration? Having a plugin already in place only adds an additional elements for us to consider as we perform our investigation.

If your website is experiencing performance issues, your configuration must be reviewed.

You’re not the first person to try and solve the problem by yourself.

Performance tuning is not a simple task and every single decision matters. A single oversight can have a sizeable impact. Furthermore, the term “optimization” is rather elastic and we are looking for changes that will have a rather large impact. Optimizing an image by reducing its size by 10% isn’t sufficient if it’s possible to actually reduce it by 70%. In both cases, this is an “optimization”.

Every website is different and each configuration offers unique challenges. There is unfortunately no magic recipe that fits every situation. This is the reason why our optimizations starts with a performance audit.. We’ll give you the time of day and you’ll know exactly what work needs to be performed in your specific case.

Yes and no.

The information gathering par, for the most part, is performed by automated tools. For example, one of these tools is Google PageSpeed. We have several other tools which are used, amongst which an extraction tool, installed on your website to amass data which Google (or other tools) are not able to recuperate any other way.

Then, an expert reviews the data that was extracted, logs in to your WordPress dashboard and visits your content, database and files belonging to your website. All of this is done manually and no other tool can replace our expertise at this level. This is where resides the unique value of our performance audit.

Finally, the expert who carried out the performance audit reviews his report with you during a call where all the problems and recommendations will be explained. At this time, priorities are established and a game plan is proposed to correct the situation and optimize the performance of your site!

With this structured approach, you’ll obtain precise results adapted to your situation. Nothing is left to chance and each recommendation is linked to your specific context.

What is performance optimisation
for my WordPress website?

Analysis

Our team will perform an analysis of your situation. This step allows us to document what factors may cause performance issues on your site.

We provide you with a detailed report which explains the results of our analysis, the issues we’ve noticed, a set of recommendations as well as an estimate should we perform the work.

02

Optimization

Following the analysis, we proceed to tuning the configuration of your WordPress site.

We will perform the various modifications and adjustments required to correct the issues detected on your current site configuration.

Once this is completed, your website will be tuned letting you benefit from optimal results!
